Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery team. The PA will function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures. Responsibilities include first assisting in the operating room, managing perioperative patient care, conducting inpatient rounds, evaluating consults, and collaborating with surgeons, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist cardiothoracic surgeons in the operating room as a first assist during cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures
- Perform pre-operative evaluations, obtain histories and physicals, review diagnostic studies, and develop care plans in collaboration with supervising physicians
- Manage postoperative patients in the ICU, step-down unit, and inpatient surgical units
- Evaluate and respond to patient consultations, urgent clinical issues, and changes in patient condition
- Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic test results
- Perform procedures within scope of practice, including chest tube insertion/removal, central line removal, temporary pacing wire removal, wound management, suture and staple removal, and other delegated procedures
- Assist with patient discharge planning, medication reconciliation, and follow-up care coordination
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, postoperative care, and lifestyle modifications
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, rehabilitation services, and ancillary departments to ensure high-quality patient care
- Participate in call coverage, weekend rounds, and after-hours patient management as required
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record

Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current Physician Assistant license (or eligibility) in the State of Georgia
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Previous cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, critical care, or surgical first assist experience preferred
